Should I use Olaplex?

Olaplex application at home: this is how it works!

Olaplex has been THE hair product everyone is talking about for a while. It should prevent hair damage during dyeing and bleaching as well as possible and even rebuild the hair structure in the process. Many hairdressers now offer the use of Olaplex in their salons, but you can just as easily use the product yourself at home! We'll tell you exactly how to do it.

Olaplex: savior for colored hair

Many women now swear by the great effects of Olaplex (read here again what exactly Olaplex actually is). Most people use it to dye their hair at the hairdresser's to protect their mane and still achieve great results on their heads. Unfortunately, such an application is quite expensive, after all, the miracle cure cannot be compared with a simple hair treatment. However, if you often dye your hair yourself or just want to treat it to a soothing treatment, you can simply use Olaplex at home! We have step-by-step instructions for you.

Preparation: Use Olaplex at home

First of all, you should know what Olaplex can be used with. You can use it with bleaching, highlighting, coloring or simply as a care product. In general, however, just like a professional, you should only mix it with hairdressing products. Packs from the drugstore are not suitable for this, since their exact composition and the mixing ratio of color and developer is often unclear. But that is exactly what is important for the use of Olaplex. In addition, there is often a big difference in quality between drugstore products and professional paint.

Olaplex No. Buy 1 and 2 online

For dyeing with Olaplex you only need the Bond Multiplier and the Bond Perfector, i.e. Olaplex No. 1 and No. 2. As a non-professional, you can only get these on the Internet and not in ordinary shops. Most of the time, the shipment must also be from abroad. When buying, make sure that you order the original bottles with 100 milliliters each, because there are also many suppliers who only fill an alleged original product into small pipettes, i.e. dosed. In the end, you don't even know what exactly is in there.

The costs for the original Olaplex products are currently between 50 and 100 euros, which of course is not cheap. However, the vials are usually sufficient for around 10 applications, so they are much cheaper than at the hairdresser's.

If you are just a beginner in coloring, you should first find out exactly how you can color your hair yourself before you get Olaplex:

Use Olaplex yourself at home: Instructions

# 1 apply Olaplex with paint

  1. Mix the hair color with the developer in the ratio you want. Make sure that you get exactly 60 ml of the mixture at the end. This is important to get the right dose of Olaplex.
  2. Add exactly 3.75 ml of Olaplex No. 1 (an applicator with dimensions should be included with the product on delivery). If you use less than 60 ml of the color mixture, just add 1.875 ml of Olaplex.
  3. Now you can apply the color as usual and let it take effect.
  4. Wash off the hair color and make sure your hair is towel dry.
  5. Now you are wearing Olaplex No. 2 on your hair and then comb it through.
  6. After 10-20 minutes you can rinse it again, use shampoo and conditioner.

# 2 Apply Olaplex with bleaching and highlighting color

IMPORTANT: Olaplex reduces the effect of the developer by one level! So if you normally dye with 3% hydrogen peroxide, you should now use a developer with 6%, with 6% one with 9% and one with normally 9% now one with 12%.

  1. Mix the bleaching powder with the developer in the desired ratio. Make sure you end up with 30-60g of mixture.

  2. Give your bleaching or highlight color exactly 3.75 ml of Olaplex No. 1 in addition. If you use less than 30 g of the color mixture, you only add 1.875 ml of Olaplex.
  3. Add a little more bleaching powder to thicken the mixture.
  4. Now you can apply the bleaching as usual and let it take effect.
  5. Wash off the hair color and make sure your hair is towel dry.
  6. Now you are wearing Olaplex No. 2 on your hair and then comb it through.
  7. After 10-20 minutes you can rinse it again, use shampoo and conditioner.

So that Olaplex can take care of your hair properly, you should also master the hair care basics:

# 3 use Olaplex as a regimen

  1. Mix 15 ml of Olaplex No. 1 with 90 ml of water in a bowl or bottle together.
  2. Massage the mixture into your dry or towel-dried hair, then comb it through.
  3. After 5 minutes you are now wearing undiluted Olaplex No. 2 and comb your hair again.
  4. After 10 minutes (and leave it on for longer), rinse, wash and care for your hair as usual.

If you want to do something good for your hair, you can simply use the Hair PerfectorOlaplex No. 3use. You can get this much more easily from Amazon. The application is simple: Simply massage into dry hair and leave on for at least 10 minutes (preferably overnight) before rinsing everything out again. Olaplex No.3 works even better with the new primer Olaplex No.0.

Admittedly, using Olaplex at home is not exactly cheap, but overall much cheaper than at the hairdresser's. Have you already been able to gain experience with the product? Tell us about it in the comments!
