How does the tax work on Amazon

About sales tax on items sold by Amazon.de

Sales tax will be charged on items sold by Amazon.de within the European Union (EU) and Northern Ireland.

For goods that are offered on the Amazon.de website and are sent to destinations within the European Union (EU) and Northern Ireland, sales tax must be calculated according to the laws applicable within the EU and tax rates that vary within the member states. The amount of sales tax to be charged depends on various factors, such as the identity of the seller, the nature of the purchased product and the destination to which the product is to be shipped.

The prices on our website are shown in euros and include German sales tax. Please note that the final price depends on the actual sales tax that applies to your order. For orders from other EU countries, the German sales tax is deducted and the sales tax valid for the country of destination is calculated. You can see the final price, including the sales tax rates applicable for the items ordered, on the last page of the order form.

If you would like to use your VAT number for purchases on Amazon.de, please go to About purchases from EU customers with a VAT number.

For information about sales tax on digital products and services, see About sales tax on digital products and services sold by Amazon.de.

Amazon Business customers may see prices exclusive of sales tax. More information can be found here.

For items purchased from the Amazon Global Store, sales tax and customs fees are paid by prepayment of import fees. The transport service declares all imports on behalf of the recipient of the delivery. For more information, see the About Prepaid Import Fees help page.
